PokerStars World Cup of Poker

Well it's time for PokerStars to run another one of their major online poker tournaments. This event is the PokerStars World Cup of Poker, and this event is different from all the rest because it is a team competition with representatives covering the globe. This tournament is a Heads Up No Limit Hold'em tourney where you will see countries battling it out against one another to become the World Cup of Poker Champions.

The field of this tournament will be represented by 39 countries and a total of 46 teams. The prize pool is fairly substantial for this event, but it all comes down to national pride. Who wants it? These kinds of events are great to be a part of as you get to represent your country, and hopefully bring the title to your native homeland. Once the field has been cut down to the elite eight, those teams lucky enough to still be in it will be flown to Barclona, Spain to complete the tournament and see who is going home with the title.

Are you looking for a spot into this elite field? Well, if you are you need to start playing at PokerStars and earn your spot in this field. Each country will hold two, 50 frequent player point buy-in heads up qualifiers on PokerStars. The winner of each of these will earn themselves a spot onto their national team. If you are players in the United States or Canada, there will be additional qualifying rounds to get your seat on the team (Click here for US and Canada).

Players who finished in the top two of the Tournament Leaderboard in each of the qualifying countries in 2005, also receive an automatic invite to the event. This is a big time event, so if you do not have an automatic invite you need to get into some of these qualifiers to get a chance at becoming a national poker hero.

This type of event is fantastic and exciting for all of those involved. I'm so glad that there is this type of event in poker nowadays, and there definitely should be a live poker event with this same format, for the poker professionals. You tell me that wouldn't be a tremendous event to see live on television. An event like this would generate so much interest all over the poker world, and not to mention what kind of an outstanding
PokerParty this would turn out to be. Could you imagine the teams that would be represented in this field. Obviously the US would be stacked, but so would a lot of other nations. It has to happen!

I'd have to have Chris "Jesus" Ferguson and Phil Ivey as Team USA, Daniel Negreanu and Steve Paul-Ambrose representing Canada, the Danes would be led by Gus Hansen and Rehne Pederson, the Aussies would have Joseph Hachem and Mel Judah, the English would be represented by the Devilfish David Ulliott and Surinder Sunar.

Leave some comments and let me know who your dream teams would be.

Thanks for stopping by and don't forget the bonus code 20BR the next time you log on to Party Poker.
